Meet the Team!

Nicole Miller (Founder)

While growing up in Central New Jersey, Nicole’s love for the ocean has driven her style and subject of artwork. She earned a degree in Art Education at The College of New Jersey in 2017. For four years out of college, she taught elementary and middle school art and used her summers to invest herself into her personal art practice. In 2021, while living in Key West, Florida, Nicole decided to give up teaching for good and fully immerse herself into her work. By 2022, Nicole became a part of her first fine art gallery in Key West. She also began developing her muralist skills locally and out of state.

Being a military spouse, Nicole finds herself moving around the country every few years. In June of 2022, Nicole and her husband moved to San Diego, California. During her time there, she refined her surfboard art practice and put on multiple exhibitions. She developed a unique style for her boards that has been described as feminine and spiritual. In this time, she traveled and completed many large murals throughout the country.

In June of 2024 Nicole relocated again to Galveston, Texas where her work can be found at Affaire d’ Art Gallery. She has recently given birth to her first child, which led her to circle back to an old dream of hers- an All-Female Surf Artist Retreat! She came up with Women Making Waves and asked her talented friend, Alexx to join her in planning! Nicole can’t wait to share her love for painting surfboards with like-minded artists from all over.

Alexx Gray (Co-Founder)

Alexx is a self taught artist and has been drawing and creating art ever since she was a child. Her art career launched when COVID hit and she was let go from her 9 to 5 job. Because of the pandemic, she leaned on art as therapy and ended up discovering a way to make a steady income from it. Originally she is a Bay Area native, but at the time was living in San Diego where she would often find old, abandoned surfboards lying around. She decided to collect a bunch to upcycle, which included driving around to pick them up and even dumpster diving for some of them. She cleaned them up and added her designs with the goal of giving them a second life as art instead of letting them end up in a landfill. She quickly discovered there was a demand for customizing surfboard artwork for people to hang in their homes, and this has been her full-time work ever since.

Since she is a military spouse, she relocates every few years and currently is based out of Jacksonville, Florida. She lives there with her husband, and her one and three year olds. For now, she is enjoying staying at home with her babies even though she doesn’t get to create art quite as much as she would like. She does however have big plans for the future which include creating more custom and original pieces of her own art, kid and adult art classes, and is currently partnering with her good friend Nicole to create the first retreat (of hopefully many!) for female surf artists.
